Overview

The Break Time Operations Director’s primary responsibility is to oversee the operations of the Break Time division of MFA Oil. This position centers around driving a customer-centric culture within the stores, increasing sales and profitability, coaching, expense control, managing profitability, training and developing the management team, maintaining expectations of the store’s appearance, and ensuring proper operational procedures are followed. This position is responsible for leading a team of Senior Area Managers and other personnel to ensure smooth day to day operations of the Break Time stores and instilling a culture of accountability for all measurable objectives, improving the customer experience and driving an atmosphere of coaching, engagement, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Accountability of sales, profit, budgeting, and personnel development within the operations team
  • Ensure efficient operations of all company owned and operated convenience store locations.
  • Oversee the ongoing operations and development of Break Time convenience stores within the scope of the company’s mission and vision.
  • Make decisions on matters relating to day-to-day retail operations within the defined work area.
  • Translate strategic goals into operational plans to achieve the targeted growth in sales and profits.
  • Oversee and ensure operations are abiding by the budgeted labor hours and managing operational efficiency and productivity by controlling overtime costs at the store level.
  • Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures in order to maintain a high-performance culture.
  • Enforce policies regarding the sale of age restrictive products.
  • Implement policy & procedure changes established by the executive team.
  • Support the effective execution of the marketing programs and promotions at the store level.
  • Maintain and enhance relationships with key vendors.
  • Lead, support and coach direct subordinates and store teams to understand and identify critical business issues and to ensure the alignment of tactics and strategy for achievement of business goals, providing advice and guidance on Store Manager issues when needed.
  • Work with the HR Department to ensure personnel management issues are satisfactorily resolved.
  • Participate in hearings and appeals related to disciplinary action, grievances, and for unemployment cases.
  • Participate in the strategic direction and decision-making process for new initiatives, projects, and procedures as necessary.
  • Assure a safe working environment is available to all employees and that all federal, state and local codes are being honored.
  • Establish individual and team goals for the department, as well as establish personal goals with senior leadership. Ensure goals are attainable and trackable.
  • Manage assigned employees including hiring, evaluating performance, making wage adjustments, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • Plan and direct the work of assigned employees, including providing clear direction; training, developing and motivating employees; enforcing company policies and safety requirements; monitoring productivity; and resolving conflict in a timely manner.
  • All MFA Oil employees are expected to know and adhere to company and position specific policies and procedures.  While this job description contains the primary duties of the position, employees may be expected to perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or related degree program.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in multi-unit leadership.
  • Track record of successful implementation of new process and procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness within an organization, and solving complex business problems and issues.
  • Knowledge of and experience in development and growth of chain retail establishments, as well as industry guidelines and standards.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret various sales reporting and make relevant decisions to increase sales and profitability.
  • Ability to lead effectively in a demanding, fast paced, team environment.
  • Ability to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to train others, present to small or large groups, and run regional group meetings.
  • Excellent writing skills – including ability to convey material concisely, using proper grammar.
  • Ability to motivate employees under direct supervision, evaluate performance and assist in personal and professional development.
  • Travel expected to company sites and to attend training and meetings. Some of which will be overnight.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including availability for some nights and/or weekends.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to meet Company requirements, including successful pre-employment background and MVR check and drug test.
  • Ability to exchange accurate information with co-workers and customers in English.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States of America.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in a Break Time store or support position.
